I've been interested in holistic health and wellness for as long as I can remember. When I was young, I read the book Gifted Hands by Ben Carson, MD, and thought that I would be a doctor someday. I was fascinated with the human body and inspired to help people feel better.
After struggling with weight gain, chronic pain from a low back injury, and anxiety during college, I continued to read every book I could find on nutrition, stress, healing, and health. With a long history of trauma, a body and mind riddled with stress and anxiety, and a dysregulated nervous system, I sought healing.
In 2008, I enrolled in a massage therapy school. This decision opened the doors to the world of wellness and began my healing journey. I started practicing yoga, studying acupuncture, and worked for the next decade in rehabilitation clinics offering clinical massage therapy, teaching yoga, and rehabilitative exercises. I became a certified Yoga Instructor, Health Coach, and Reiki practitioner with more than 1,000 hours of yoga training.
In 2014, my adverse childhood experiences, lifestyle, stress, and coping mechanisms caught up with me. I was hospitalized due to a heart arrhythmia. I spent several weeks in multiple hospitals with teams of doctors until I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder, POTS, and Lyme disease. I wondered if I would ever be the same again, but there were blessings in the illness that dominated my life for years. I began to practice all of the healing modalities that I studied. During the challenges of chronic illness, I drew from the ancient healing system of yoga to reduce and manage symptoms and shift my attitude around suffering. I enrolled in a 3-year yoga therapy program that completely transformed my life! Today, I'm medicine-free, having treated disease by healing, transforming, and remembering who I am. The empathy and compassion I've learned from times of struggle are invaluable! Since, I've spent over a decade working for and managing small wellness practices.
Everything lead to opening Sangha Center. I feel grateful to be alive, so I've dedicated my life to serving others on their path to healing. This is my life's purpose. The human spirit perseveres, and that inspires me!
Katie’s offerings include: yoga therapy, massage therapy, energy work, and cupping
